Antidote to dull, dark days....💡your senses

I’m at the window shop, imagining how my kitchen would let light in, framed by the windows in front of me. I like the modern picture window flanked by classic grid windows on either side. Gives me comfort to see the old and new world cohabitate in a beautiful fusion.

In between other ‘important’ tasks like finalizing countertops and driving kids to lessons, I’m grateful to have said “yes” to an evening of singing devotional songs with my besties.

I believe that when we take the time to nourish ourselves, we have a capacity to meet the demands of our life, to find joy and creativity in our work and replenish ourselves in the white spaces that lie in between.

We were sitting in my friend's prayer room, singing hymns in Tamil and sanskrit. I don’t grasp the meaning of all the words, but I can feel the vibrations settle me into an otherworldly place. I give myself permission to linger here.

Few moments later, I’m singing an ode to Saraswati - one of the nine feminine forms. Draped in a white sari, she’s perched on a lotus, plucking the strings of the veena. My girlfriends and I take our voices a few pitches deeper and implore the light to sweep away the darkness that is growing around us.

The high from the night carries into the week. I drive my daughter through the countryside to her horse farm, pick up groceries, mind other weekend chores and end the day, playfully fighting over faucet styles with my husband.

Years ago, an excessively demanding week like this could have easily swamped me into a quicksand of overwhelm and woken up the squeaky wheels in my body - that tight spot in the top of my right shoulder.

Do you relate?

Have you had moments when you could meet deadlines, get dinner at the table and listen undistractedly to your kids' stories from school (aka not feel your achy back or your nerves, urging them to get in bed “right NOW”!)?

That whole sense of well being that permeates body and mind, is what I help my people cultivate inside the Sensory Movement Club.

Just like our voices can create deeper vibrations that elevate our spirit, Sensory Movement allows you to go beyond mechanical exercise and taste qualities of lightness, solidity, fluidity, calmness, suppleness, zen.

You get to lie on the floor and move your body in ways that allow the outbreath to happen in our joints and in our minds. You get to turn on the playful side of your brain - the one that can solve complex problems without overmulling on things.

Moving our body without pain and with greater freedom to do the things we love is one such complex problem. It is solved much easier with sensory movement, than with exercising.
